Join the California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks (CMATO) for a day of accessible art programming for children on the autism spectrum and their families. In collaboration with the Autism Society of Ventura County and Delta Kappa Gamma Society (DKG – the international society of key women educators), CMATO will provide two creative art making sessions for kids on the autism spectrum (2nd Grade – 5th Grade) with a parent or caregiver. The art making activities are geared to encourage experimentation with materials, processes and creative play in welcoming environment.
Judie Tetzlaff, Vice Chair of the CMATO Council and retired principal of Meadows Elementary School, states, “Planning this art event for children with autism has been a true collaboration of people who love art and who care about children. Members of the Autism Society of Ventura County, Delta Kappa Gamma and the CMATO Council and Staff have worked together creating an exciting event for the children. We hope it will be the first of several art events we offer to our special needs community.”
Create @CMATO will focus on communication, imagination and socialization in a friendly environment. Creative expression is championed as well as free play.
