Special Live Performance with Ricky Medina - #hiphopcypher

  • California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks 350 West Hillcrest Drive Thousand Oaks United States (map)

Join CMATO on Saturday, August 17, at 7:00 PM for a special live performance celebrating Kelly "Risk" Graval's solo exhibition and the four pillars of hip hop! A fusion of dance, spoken word and cypher challenges, #hiphopcypher is a music and dance journey that explores the longstanding relationship between graffiti art and hip-hop. Professional and local dancers will perform, led by Ricky Medina, adjunct professor of theater arts, California Lutheran University.

Set against the brilliant and dazzling neon lights of Risk's graffiti and mixed-media exhibit, #hiiphopcypher highlights the key aspects of hip hop -- DJ, MC, break dancers and graffiti art -- and traces the role of graffiti within the ethos of hip-hop culture. It's an evening of hip-hop beats, vie and inventiveness unlike anything else! Following the performance, test your own hip-hop dance skills or watch and support others during this high-energy, participatory event!

Admission is free; a $5 donation is suggested:
