Gallery Manager Position

Summary of Position:

Gallery Manager handles the day-to-day operations of the Museum. This includes recruiting and managing Gallery Attendants and volunteers and attending to the administrative tasks in the museum.

This position has primary responsibility for the successful and efficient operation of the gallery and the management of the gallery staff.  The Gallery Manager is responsible for the overall gallery leadership in accordance with the priorities of the Executive Director. As such this position is business focused and has both administrative and management responsibilities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

·         Comprehensive operational responsibility of the gallery, to include gallery logistics and gallery staff oversight, including reviewing and submitting time sheets for all gallery staff and volunteers.

·         Supervise IT infrastructure and maintenance.

·         Support events at the museum including public openings, exhibition-related events and group visits.

·         Oversee all human resources responsibilities including staff management, performance-based reviews, development and retention of talent.

·         Work in collaboration with Executive Director on all aspects of finance and accounting.

·         Support special projects, as needed.

Skills & Experience

•        2+ years experience in a gallery, museum, or similar business environment

•        Knowledge of art

•        Computer literacy and database experience (etapestry preferred)

•        Experience managing staff members in multiple departments and roles

•        Strong budgeting skills and past finance experience

•        Strong planning and organization skills

•        Strong professional ethics, discretion and confidentiality, and sound judgment

•         Experience in supervising complex projects and exhibitions

•        Strong leadership and communication skills

•        Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a rapidly changing environment


Salary

$15 - $17 per hour; Part-Time (25 - 30 hrs a week)

Gallery Attendant Position

The California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks (CMATO) is seeking Gallery Attendants to facilitate the experience of all visitors at our new location in The Oaks. The Gallery Attendant will create a friendly environment while also overseeing gallery experience and the safety and security of both artworks and visitors. This is a part-time position; Gallery Attendants can be scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week depending on their availability and will be scheduled for at least one weekend day. Candidates must be available to work weekends, holidays and special events as necessary. CMATO will be open Wednesday-Sunday, 12pm-7pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome visitors to CMATO.

  • Offer visitors information about the current exhibition, membership, and scheduled programs at CMATO.

  • When needed, enforce rules that ensure the safety of visitors and also of the artworks on display.

  • Assist with processing memberships or any special projects, as needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Friendly, sociable and energetic.

  • Interested in art.

  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable speaking to individuals and large groups (adults and children).

  • Previous experience in a client-facing capacity and/or a cultural organization preferred.

  • Basic computer skills; comfortable using an iPad or Tablet.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

During peak times or special events standing for extended periods of time may be required.

All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

SALARY

$13.00/hour
